Brest - a city of regional submission with the population of 315 thousand people

Brest area is located in the southwest of the Brest region. Its territory is equal to 1617 sq. km. The extent of area from the north on the south -100 km, from the West on the east - 35 km. The general extent of its borders makes 387 km.

General information about Brest:

The city is divided on two parts by the river Muhavets (through the river there are thrown 3 road and 2 railway bridges). To the north from the river there are some quarters of the historical centre (built up with one-two-storeyed houses of the end of XIX — the beginnings of the XX centuries), the extensive quarters which have been built up with private houses, the microdistrict Vostok built up with many-storeyed apartment houses, and also areas of factory building. To the south from Muhavts are actively developing new areas of mass building of Kovalyovo, Vulka. The main city street — the avenue of P.M.Masherov (passes in street Moscovskaya). The basic foot street of Brest — Sovietskaya street, cutting the city centre, crossed by parkways.

Transport communications of Brest:

Brest is the major transport knot in the southwest of Belarus, and also considerable transit point on frontier with Poland. In the city there are 3 customs terminals. Brest is also an important railway junction on the highway Moscow — Berlin, there are lines on Kovel, Vysokolitovsk, Vlodava. Large cargo terminals, locomotive depot operate. On the city territory are located stations Brest-central, Brest-northern, Brest-east, Brest-Polessky, Brest-southern. In Brest is carried out the replacement of carload carts of the structures crossing border between Belarus and Poland in connection with the various size of a railway track. Stations of Brest and adjoining sites of railways are served by the Brest branch of the Belarus railway. Through Brest passes the international automobile transport corridor E30 (Cork — Berlin — Warsaw — Brest — Minsk — Moscow — Chelyabinsk — Omsk), also there are highways on Kamenets, Malorita, etc. Near Brest are located automobile throughput boundary transitions «the Warsaw bridge» and "Kozlovichi". Within 2006-2007 southern automobile detour of a city with bridges through the river Muhavets was constructed. In 12 km to the east from a city is located the international airport Brest with a modern aerostation complex, the customs terminal and a customs warehouse. In connection with sharp falling of a volume of passenger traffic regular passenger flights completely have been cancelled in the early nineties and till now are carried out incidentally. On the river Muhavets the Brest river port operates.
